Yeah, but when I was in Italy this summer, in Milan, one of the coffee capitals of the world, I could not get into the Starbucks Reserve store because the line was around the block, and they had security to keep people like me from just walking in and saying, "I just want to have a look around and not even buy anything because I'm just doing research."

And part of its success might be that she has such broad appeal with supporters across generations. They're already there. The one in six scenario, the US is already there. The lowest shares are in countries like Uganda and Zambia, with one in 50 people over the age of 65. This is just huge discrepancies.

In Italy, for example, they've been paying it forward for over a century. The tradition of caffè sospeso or suspended coffee, has been around in Naples for a little over a century, and it calls for people who've had a good day to pay for two coffees in a cafe, but drink only one, leaving the other to be picked up by someone more in need.

Beware, replacing this with another hand gesture though, the okay sign where the index finger touches the thumb is usually well understood around the world, but again, in parts of the Middle East and Mediterranean Europe, the gesture has a far more vulgar or offensive meaning.

Italy is of course home to the espresso and has a rich coffee culture. Apparently, statistically, 90% of Italian adults have had a coffee in the last 24 hours. I think that's believable. However, the drink is actually thought to have originated in Ethiopia and the country still has a very rich coffee landscape.
