Pinterest struck a similar deal with Amazon early last year. Shoppable CTV ads. Amazon has shoppable ad formats as part of its Streaming TV ad suite. Target’s Roundel retail media network has added shoppable CTV ads with partners Animal Planet, Crackle, and Sling TV. Shopify and DoorDash have partnered with Roku to give their respective merchants access to shoppable CTV ads.

I mean Pinterest has been doing search for decades, decade maybe perhaps a long time and others are. And then you've got how AI plays in this space as well. So in the social space. So meta integrating its AI functionality into its search bars across Facebook and Instagram and WhatsApp early this year. And then if we extend that to retail media as well. So this is what I mean about interconnectedness.

Snapchat and Pinterest have also inked deals with Amazon. These partnerships could both boost their positions in the social commerce space and drive ad revenues. Amazon also needs to fight. Amazon's partnerships with Meta, Snap, and Pinterest could make buying and fulfilling social orders easier and may lead to added growth. More apps with commerce also means more retail media networks. Many apps with commerce tools already have robust ad networks. As more apps add commerce components, expect them to also add ad networks, taking advantage of their first-party data.

On April 27, the same day it released mixed Q1 earnings, Pinterest announced a partnership with Amazon that would allow the ecommerce giant to sell Pinterest ads on its own platform. This marked the first time Pinterest had allowed a third party to sell its ad inventory. Our Take: Retail and social media are at the beginning of what could be a very mutually beneficial relationship.
