The new law will make platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram liable for fines of up to $33 million US for systematic failures to prevent kids under 16 from holding accounts. Exemptions apply for health and education services, which will include YouTube, Messenger Kids, WhatsApp, and others.
