TV spend is becoming a dual consideration—traditional plus digital. CTV still trails traditional TV spend, but the gap is closing quite quickly. It will be only 3 percentage points behind by 2027, down from closer to 10 percentage points in 2021.

Romania is serious about its TV. It's the only country in the region to have a penetration rate over 90% among those who watched traditional TV, and it has the highest rate of smart TV ownership at 65.6%. Romania also leads in time spent with broadcast TV by 22 minutes. Romania saw the largest decrease in time spent with social/messaging.

Ad loads are higher on traditional TV. A large portion of streaming time is still spent on services without ads, which is how most Netflix users operate. As viewership moves from linear TV to CTV, marketers need to account for reduced inventory. Marketers will have to be more selective when using CTV to drive reach as it doesn’t generate as many ad impressions.

Gen Zers place little value on most forms of ads, including traditional TV, out of the home, radio, print and even podcast ads. I can't even believe that. But I think that while they say they don't place value, it doesn't mean that banks shouldn't message to this generation through these media channels.

Digital accounting for over 80% of ad dollars and that will be keeping the total ad spending figure afloat and then some. Switzerland was first in Western Europe and second in the world in magazine reading. It was also second in Western Europe in newspapers and recorded TV.
