Last year, four of the 28 markets we break out saw negative growth (Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Chile), and Germany was essentially flat. This year, every country will grow ecommerce sales by at least 3.0%, as the trend of economic stabilization cascades around the world. The US, China, and Western Europe lead the rest of the world in total sales by a wide margin.

The UK and Chile will be the only countries to post negative ecommerce growth in 2023. Last year, France and Germany were also in the red. While only two countries among the 28 we track will see a contraction this year, Singapore and Hong Kong will be barely positive. Chile will also post negative growth in total retail, the only country with that unfortunate distinction.

Chile and Peru will lag their peers but still produce decent growth. Most of the countries we track are now over 50% digital in their advertising, but no one will catch up with China. Nearly every major market in the world has transitioned into primarily digital advertising. We track 29 countries, including almost all the world’s most important economies.

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico will continue to experience double-digit gains by the end of 2026. In 2027, digital ad spending growth will dip to the high single digits in Chile, while we expect the other four to maintain their double-digit growth trajectory. Political instability will make Peru an outlier.
