In France and the UK, digital is the majority media and has been for some time—since 2022 in France and 2016 in the UK. Digital advertising’s appeal is growing rapidly. Eyeballs still remain in traditional media, but legacy platforms will struggle to improve revenues as digital takes hold.

Sistrix data showed that search visibility for 33 of 70 leading news publishers in the UK declined by double digits following that update. And more than half of the top 15 news publisher sites in the US saw their search visibility decline. While the March 2024 update did stamp out some sites that leaned hard on AI to generate their content, it also punished many sites that did not.
