Internet adoption in Asia-Pacific will rise from 65.8% in 2025 to 70.2% in 2030, thanks to rapidly expanding infrastructure—particularly in the Philippines, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. But parts of the region are still lagging.
By contrast, 56.1% of internet users worldwide will be digital gamers, which is similar to the penetration rate among internet users in most individual geographies. Almost half of all gamers will be in the US, China, and India.
The fiber-optic cable will connect major global regions in a “W” shape, linking the US, India, South Africa, and Australia and make Meta the sole owner and user of the cable. This gives it dedicated infrastructure to address growing internet traffic in the region. Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp currently account for 10% of global fixed and 22% of mobile internet usage, per Sandvine.
