When SiriusXM acquired Pandora in 2019, Pandora had recently acquired digital audio ad tech company AdsWizz, which now acts as the ad server and sell-side platform (SSP) for the entire SiriusXM Media portfolio.

Thirty-five percent of Gen X users ages 45 to 54 listen to the free version of Pandora, making it the leading ad-supported digital audio platform for younger Gen Xers. This is likely because this cohort generally doesn’t change their digital habits without a reason, and Pandora works well for them. Both Sirius XM (31%) and AM/FM online radio (30%) rank above Spotify as well (26%).

The differences among demographic groups were more pronounced in digital audio streaming than for video streaming. A large divide was evident between the youngest age cohort (ages 16 to 24) and the oldest (ages 55 to 64), between high- and low-income households, and between urban and rural dwellers.
