Countries including Australia, Malaysia, Argentina, and Peru will see declines up to -0.9%, while Indonesia, Colombia, and Taiwan will see more modest shrinkage in active user base. These numbers signal a reversal of past expectations, when Facebook was presumed to still be expanding steadily across middle-income and mobile-first economies.

It is also investing in Taiwan. HP is similarly looking to expand its factories in Vietnam, Thailand, India, Mexico, and the US. By the end of June, the company expects nearly all of its products sold in North America will be built outside of China.

Outside of China and India, Apple also has manufacturing factories and partners in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Why does it matter? Any tariff costs passed on to consumers could spell more trouble for Apple, both from iPhone buyers and from Trump, who previously called out Walmart when it said it would raise prices.

Internal inventory: Some smaller retail businesses or manufacturers that rely on goods from China, Vietnam, or Taiwan may struggle to pivot production to the US. On the flip side, local artisans that source materials from within the US and companies that buy used inventory may be better off.
